Parks Commission Meeting Minutes
November 13, 2000
Page 7
1 Momson indicated they are looking at opportunities for other restaurants but the real issue is that
2 the City can not issue a Sunday liquor license.
3 City Council Liaison Thuesen explained that a voter referendum would be needed to approve a
4 Sunday liquor license. He advised that a report was conducted on the condition of City
5 buildings, including the Stonehouse and Fire Station, and it was recommended that no significant
6 money be put into the Stonehouse or the Fire Station.
7 Zurbey reported that they purchased two pianos this year and $20,000 worth of varsity band
8 equipment last year. He noted that the money coming in from charitable gambling is not only
9 spent on sport programs.
10 Zurbey stated all parties will have to make plans to play elsewhere so they are working on that
11 issue.
12 Jindra stated she met with Jay Hartman and Mike Morrison and discussed the number of grants
13 that are available. She presented the letter she drafted encouraging donations for a drinking
14 fountain, a set of bleachers, and restroom. Zurbey explained that letter must come from a
5 nonprofit entity. Mr. Hartman stated he will redraft the letter and direct it to the proper entity.
16 Jindra stated she has learned that the Northeast Lions has a fair amount of money available if the
17 City can show that a number of northeast Minneapolis residents use St. Anthony parks and
18 programs. She stated she contacted a Northeast Lions representative and had asked staff to
19 determine what the percentage of participation would be.
20 VII. OTHER BUSINESS.
21 A. He stated
26 he has the proposal for lighting available for review. The Commissioners asked for a copy of
27 that information to be included in the next meeting packet.
28 Jindra thanked Skrivseth for attending that resident meeting.
29 Skrivseth suggested that the residents of Silver Point at the December 11, 2000 neighborhood
30 meeting also be asked about the issues of shelter, color, and style.
31 Mr. Hartman stated, perhaps, a second meeting should be scheduled to address building colors
32 and styles. Skrivseth agreed that a second meeting is needed. She stated that at the meeting, the
