Parks Commission Meeting Minutes <br />November 13, 2000 <br />Page 6 <br />1 Jindra asked staff to determine if the fence is high enough to provide safety. Zurbey stated he <br />2 feels BRW should be catching these types of issues, especially safety issues. Mr. Hartman <br />3 agreed that BRW should know the specifics. <br />4 Jindra noted the addition of three signs for $4,500 and stated she thought the signs had all been <br />5 ordered. Mr. Hartman stated they may be proposing signs at new locations. <br />6 Mr. Hartman explained that adjustments can be considered next year <br />7 Skrivseth asked where older aged hockey players can play. Mr. Hartman explained that typically <br />8 full sized hockey rinks are no longer installed and a consultant had suggested a half rink. <br />9 Gebhardt asked when ice will go in. Mr. Hartman estimated the boards will be installed within <br />10 two weeks. <br />1l Jenson suggested the Commission not pave the Central Park hockey rink right away and, instead, <br />12 consider what Roseville did to install cabling which would provide skating activity during <br />13 warmer winter weather. He stated he does not know what the cost would be but suggested staff <br />14 analyze that option which has been very successful in Roseville. <br />15 Zurbey explained the type of equipment that would be needed for this type of rink and stated the <br />16 cost may be quite high. <br />17 VI. REPORTS <br />18 A. Community Services. <br />19 Diane Skrivseth asked that when the park is in the midst of being redone, the City consider the <br />20 upper parking lot which is currently used for senior trips and Community Service staff parking. <br />21 Wagner stated that parking lot will probably be used for construction activity parking. <br />22 B. School Board. <br />23 Denise Dunn reminded all of the Tuesday, November 28, 2000, joint public hearing which will <br />24 be televised. She advised the School Board appointed Jane Eckert to serve on the Northwest. <br />25 Quadrant Task Force as their representative. <br />26 Jindra noted the letter from the Mayor asking the Commission to consider appointing someone to <br />27 the Northwest Quadrant Task Force. She asked Council Liaison Thuesen to keep the <br />28 Commission informed of those discussions. <br />29 C. Sports Boosters. <br />30 George Zurbey reported that City Manager Mike Mornson attended the last Sports Boosters <br />31 meeting and presented the plan and funding of the plan. Mr. Morrison also talked about the <br />32 situation at the Stonehouse since profits from charitable gambling have been down. Mr. <br />
