CITY OF ST. ANTHONY <br />2 PARKS COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES <br />3 JUNE 12, 2000 <br />4 7:30 p.m. <br />5 I. CALL TO ORDER. <br />6 Chair Jindra called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. and welcomed everyone to the meeting. <br />7 II. ROLL CALL. <br />8 Present: Chair Carol Jindra, Commissioners George Wagner, Julie Gebhardt, <br />9 Colleen Hallada, Daniel Ganley, and Jan Jensen. <br />10 Absent: Vice Chair Doug Koehntop, Public Works Director Jay Hartman. <br />11 Also Present: City Manager Michael Morrison; Representative from School Board <br />12 (Denise Dunn); Representative from Sports Boosters (George Zurbey); <br />13 Representative from Community Services (Diane Skrivseth). <br />14 Jindra acknowledged that there were many residents in attendance to discuss Central Park <br />15 redevelopment. In that respect, Jindra elected to jump forward on the agenda in order to address <br />16 the issue of Central Park redevelopment. <br />17 III. DISCUSS CENTRAL PARK REDEVELOPMENT AND TOWER PARK PUNCH LIST <br />3 <br />'ITEMS. <br />19 Chair Jindra invited the members of the audience to speak to the Commission, and in that <br />20 respect, Mr. Ted Severson, 2504 33rd Avenue NE, stated that he is the President of the Soccer <br />21 Club. His purpose in addressing the Commission, he stated, was to reiterate that the City is in <br />22 need of at least four baseball fields at Central Park. <br />23 Mr. Severson stated that he had spoken with people and received input regarding the fields. Mr. <br />24 Severson discussed the possibility of leaving the soccer goals in place at all times, and <br />25 questioned Mr. Kost of BRW, Inc., about the size of the fields. In addition, Mr. Severson <br />26 inquired if it would be possible to obtain a list of how many players and which players (baseball <br />27 or soccer) would be using the fields. <br />28 Jindra stated that she wanted to clarify that everyone has the same goals -- to achieve the <br />29 maximum usage from the green space available to the City. <br />30 Mr. Severson stated that since there is summer soccer, it has been difficult to use the baseball <br />31 fields for soccer. He wanted to propose a plan that would allow to have baseball and soccer <br />32 utilize the same fields, only at different times. <br />33 Jindra reminded Mr. Severson that the school owns half of the property of Central Park, and the <br />34 City has to take that into consideration. <br />i Sports Boosters Representative George Zurbey and Chair Jindra discussed together the issues <br />36 surrounding the lack of green space available for both baseball and soccer.
