Parks Commission Meeting Minutes <br />February 12, 2001 <br />Page 6 <br />Jindra and Wagner are both interested in acting as the Construction Liaison for Central Park <br />Redevelopment. It was agreed by the Parks Commissioners that both Jindra and Wagner will act <br />as Construction Liaisons as it will be a lengthy project, and one of them can serve as an alternate. <br />VII. REPORTS. <br />A. Community Services. <br />Skrivseth reported that the summer playground program numbers from last year as follows: <br />64 children, first through fifth grades, M -F afternoons. <br />30 children, 3 years old to 5 years old, three mornings a week. <br />Skrivseth inquired as to whether the new shelter will be available by the summer of 2002 to <br />which she was informed that it will not be as this is a two-year project. <br />B. School Board. <br />None. <br />C. Sports Boosters. <br />Zurbey reported that a meeting was held with the subcommittee where the plan was distributed <br />and asked for feedback, but no feedback was received except a question regarding drinking <br />fountains. Jindra noted that the plan includes 3 or 4 drinking fountains. <br />Zurbey added that there is a concern with backstops in regard to foul balls and the subcommittee <br />discussed raising the height of the fences on the outfields. Varsity and Junior Varsity will be 24 <br />ft. and the others will be 20 ft. <br />Jenson noted that the slope from the Varsity outfield to the hockey rink will go from a 3% grade <br />to a 1% grade. Zurbey commented that a 3 ft. retaining wall is being considered, along a section <br />of the fire road by the outfield. Ganley, Jenson, and Zurbey agreed that a gate in the fence should <br />be added for access from near the gym. <br />VIII. OTHER BUSINESS. <br />Jindra gave an update that Hennepin Parks has made an offer to purchase the Salvation Army <br />property. This will require the support of the City Council. Ganley stated he would encourage the <br />City Council approval. <br />Jindra added that those who would like to show their support are welcome to attend the City <br />Council meeting on Tuesday, February 13, 2001. <br />Jindra noted that Don Siggelkow, formerly with the St. Anthony Parks Commission is now on <br />the Minneapolis Parks Commission and is looking into grant opportunities for St. Anthony. <br />Jindra also stated that the Northeast Lions group may have some monies available if statistics <br />can be provided as to the number of northeast children participating in the St. Anthony programs. <br />Skrivseth will gather the summer program statistics. Jindra will be meeting with them again and <br />invited any Parks Commissioners who are interested to attend the next meeting. <br />
