Parks Commission Meeting Minutes <br />April 12, 1999 <br />Page 5 <br />1 It was agreed that this issue would be brought to the attention of the City Council at the joint <br />2 worksession on June 1, 1999. <br />4 VIII. REPORTS. <br />5 A. Community Services. <br />6 Roadfeldt stated that Community Services discussed the Sports Booster's needs and concerns at <br />7 their recent meeting, and wish to echo their desire for City planning to include consideration of <br />8 playing fields. She added that Community Services is excited about plans for the Water Tower <br />9 Park. <br />10 <br />11 B. School Board. <br />12 Wolff stated that the School Board is working with the City Council on a committee to discuss <br />13 the possible Salvation Army camp sale. She added that a joint letter of interest to the Salvation <br />14 Army was drafted, including a request for an appraisal, to show the City's commitment to the <br />15 process. <br />16 <br />17 Wolff stated a committee of stakeholders will meet on April 26,1999 to brainstorm on possible <br />18 uses for the property. Roadfeldt asked whether the meeting is open for community involvement. <br />19 Wolff stated the meeting is not closed but it is not a community meeting. <br />20 <br />1 Kosciolek asked whether representatives from the County or surrounding cities will be invited. <br />22 Wolff stated this brainstorming session is to determine City residents' opinion. <br />23 <br />24 C. Sports Boosters. <br />25 Jensen presented a letter from the Sports Boosters to the City Council requesting consideration of <br />26 acquisition of additional playing fields. Koehntop stated that Councilmember Cavanaugh might <br />27 be contacted with regard to the playing fields at Unisys as he mentioned it at a recent Council <br />28 meeting. Wolff stated that the Commission would need specifics before presenting a proposal to <br />29 the Council. <br />C <br />31 Wagner asked how many fields the Sports Boosters required. Jensen stated they are losing 2 <br />32 fields, and so would need to replace 2-3 fields. <br />33 <br />34 Kosciolek stated an overall plan for youth athletics should be discussed, and re -iterated that <br />35 Jensen should provide more background information. <br />36 <br />37 IX. OTHER BUSINESS. <br />38 A. Salvation Army. <br />39 Jindra stated that she will attend a meeting regarding the Salvation Army camp on April 26, 1999 <br />40 and will have more information after that meeting. She added she met with the Camp Director in <br />41 March and toured the Camp's 80 acres of usable space which includes dining and sleeping <br />2 facilities for up to 250 people. <br />43 <br />44 Jindra requested that the Commission make formal suggestions for development to her before <br />
