Parks Commission Meeting Minutes
November 9, 1998
Page 4
1 discussed in length at the October 13, 1998 City Council Public Hearing at which most of the
2 Commission were present.
4 Jindra stated she addressed the Council on behalf of the Commission at that meeting,
5 recommending the use of Highway 88 to remove excavation material from Silver Point Park.
6 She confirmed that access had since been approved by Ramsey County.
8 Jindra stated there were concerns expressed by a resident who lives at the site of public access to
9 the park, and that issue is still being resolved.
10
11 Jindra presented a draft statement she intends to submit to the local paper after being approved
12 by City staff. The statement addresses the timeline for renovations in Silver Point Park, as well
13 as correcting a recent article published which misquoted Jindra.
14
15 Hartman stated Hubmer is willing to bring updates to the Commission as often as necessary. He
16 suggested an update be presented by Hubmer at the Commission's December 14, 1998 meeting.
17
18 Jensen asked for budgetary figures with regard to playground equipment to be installed. Jindra
19 stated the sum of $40,000 had been budgeted for new equipment in Silver Point Park which is
1 insufficient to replace the existing equipment.
21 VIII. NEXT PARKS COMMISSION MEETING (December 14,1998) AND DISCUSS AGENDA
22 ITEMS FOR THAT MEETING.
23 A question was raised by an audience member with regard to future public hearings on the park
24 projects, and whether public opinion would be solicited. Jindra stated a public hearing had been
25 held on June 5, 1998 with regard to Silver Point Park, and no decisions have been made on
26 public hearings for the Central Park project.
27
28 No agenda items for the December 14, 1998 Parks Commission meeting were suggested.
29 IX. OTHER BUSINESS.
30 Jindra requested notification from Jensen with regard to renovations and projects planned by the
31 Sports Boosters. She added some work had been done in Central Park of which she was
32 unaware, and she has received requests for information from the community.
33
34 Jensen stated he had informed the Parks Commission at a recent meeting of three projects in
35 which the Sports Boosters are involved, all of which are on high school property: new ballfield
36 grass; lighting upgrade in the skating rink area; and the installation of permanent, portable
37 batting cages for student use.
