Parks Commission Meeting Minutes
July 9, 2001
Page 2
1 the warming house/meeting room should handle groups of 20 people and the restroom count
2 should stay the same (3 units per restroom). The storage and mechanical spaces were cut back
3 while still accommodating the needs of the pool. She noted the revisions still maintained a
4 fireplace, the kitchenette features, large windows, wood trim, and charcoal grill in the picnic
5 pavilion. Ms. Olivier then presented two plan alternates (Scheme A and Scheme B) and
6 explained the differences in each.
8
Ms. Skrivseth asked about the capacity of the meeting rooms. Ms. Olivier noted there is one
9
meeting room and the other space is the warming house.
10
11
Ms. Olivier noted the east and west elevations of Scheme B presents a more symmetrical roof
12
than Scheme A. She advised that the windows have been reduced in size, but are still the same
13
length and contain casement -style windows. In addition, the building is air conditioned. She
14
noted the "fluff' has been removed from the restrooms and mechanical rooms.
15
16
Mr. Anderson asked if the fireplace is to be included in Scheme A. Ms. Olivier stated it should
17
be included. She noted the difference between the two schemes is about $6,000.
18
Commissioners Zurbey stated his support for Scheme B which provides a better design, use of
space, and outside appearance.
21
22
Mr. Anderson stated he finds these revisions to have removed the extravagance without
23
compromising use or appearance of the building.
24
25
Ms. Olivier advised of the interior construction details, truss design, exterior treatments of the
26
upper roof area, and building materials. She noted that a scissor truss design could be used to
27
save more money.
28
29
Mr. Anderson asked about the cost between the different truss designs and noted that for
30
continuity, it may be desirable to have the same interior, roof design, and ceiling of the picnic
31
pavilion. Discussion occurred regarding how the roof will appear with scissor trusses.
32
33
Ms. Olivier answered questions of the Commission regarding partition type and costs.
34
35
Commissioner Jenson asked if the warming house can be open year-round. Mr. Anderson stated
36
it depends on how the space is intended to be used. He noted that the room may be used by the
37
boy scouts for ten of the twelve months.
38
39
Consensus was reached to use a scissor truss design to maintain continuity. Ms. Olivier stated
40
she will get more information on how the mechanical partition wall track can be constructed.
d'
L
Discussion occurred regarding who would be responsible to open/close the mechanical partition.
43
Mr. Anderson stated discussion will be needed between the City and Community Services on
44
building management. He encouraged the City and Community Services to raise the rental rates
