CITY OF ST. ANTHONY
PARKS COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES

March 13, 2006
6:00 p.m.
Conference Room

I. CALL TO ORDER.
Chair Koehntop called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. and welcomed everyone in attendance.

II. ROLL CALL.
Present: Chair Doug Koehntop, Vice Chair Erich Young, Commissioners
Colleen Hallada, Daniel Ganley, and Michael Sholl.

Absent: None.

Also Present: Public Works Director Jay Hartman; Representative from the
School Board Denise Dunn.

III. APPROVAL DECEMBER 12, 2005 PARKS COMMISSION MINUTES.

The Commission unanimously approved the December 12, 2005 Park Commission Minutes.
i
Motion carried unanimously,

IV. PRESENTATION BY TROY URDAHL, ATHLETIC DIRECTOR OF THE HIGH
SCHOOL, REGARDING FLY BALLS AT THE BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL FIELDS

Chair Koehntop stated Mr. Troy Urdahl, Athletic Director of the High School, was in attendance
to give a presentation regarding fly balls at the baseball and softball fields.

Mr. Troy Urdahl noted as spring approaches the issue of fly balls at Central Park has come up
again. He indicated this was nothing new, but now they were trying to come up with a solution
to the problem. He noted Central Parks' fields were close enough that balls landed in adjoining
fields. He stated he wanted to make this area more safe for the spectators and players. He
indicated they could put up netting along each field. They could put a chain link "roof' above
each bleacher area. On three of the four fields, there were not roof structures, so he proposed a
dug out structure, which would provide shelters for the players from foul balls, as well as
inclement weather. On the varsity softball field, they would like to construct a dug out similar to
the varsity baseball field. He requested feedback from the Commissioners.

Chair Koehntop asked if some type of an arbor or trellis system be installed with some type of a
fence roof to create a green look. Mr. Urdahl noted netting was higher maintenance with limited
durability. He noted with a chain link system, seemed to be lower maintenance and probably
_. / lower cost solution. He noted this would protect the people sitting in the bleachers, but not the
walking paths. He stated he did not have a solution to the walking paths issue.
