Parks Commission Meeting Minutes
November 10, 2003
Page 2
Rich Koechlien, URS noted four open issues 1. The sod and irrigation for the Varsity Fields, 2. The
bases, 3. The installation of the hockey boards, 4. The football field and practice field.
5 Mr. Koechlien addressed the Varsity fields stating that they have been working on the areas Mr. Urdahl
6 was most concerned about. He noted that Mr. Urdahl, with assistance from the City, took care of the
7 removal of the sod and also assisted with the irrigation.
9 Mr. Koechlien reviewed their discussion regarding the placement of the bases stating that the Soccer
10 Organization also utilizes the same fields and has expressed concerns regarding the Ag line on the
11 fields. He stated that they have suggested separate fields and reviewed with the Commission.
12
13 Mr. Koechlien reviewed stating that installation of the hockey boards could be affected due to the
14 weather. He explained that if the current weather conditions continue to hold that they might have time
15 to install the boards adding that if it gets too cold they might not be able to install the boards. He stated
16 that they have been working with Veit and the City Staff adding that they would make the changes,
17 weather permitting. He stated that they would review the boards to ensure that no nails or boards would
18 be a safety concern. He stated that the gap issues would be addressed in the spring.
19
20 Mr. Koechlien reviewed the progress for the football field and practice field with the Commission
noting that they would reseed areas of the fields in the spring. He stated that he would work with John
22 Hopco and Veit on this issue.
23
24 Chair Jindra asked if they were coordinating the overall site maintenance with Mr. Hopco. Public
25 Works Director Hartman explained that they are working with the High School and Mr. Hopco with
26 regards to ongoing maintenance and irrigation of the fields. He further explained that the High School
27 and the City would share the maintenance costs.
28
29 Chair Jindra asked if the hockey rink would be available for use this winter. Public Works Director
30 Hartman stated that it would be available along with the other rinks and reviewed the rink locations with
31 the Commission.
32
33 Chair Jindra asked if the asphalt issues were addressed. Mr. Koechlien stated that he has discussed the
34 issues with Veit several times over the past four months noting that he has not received a response from
35 Veit and that he is not sure if it has been addressed yet. He noted that this issue has been a concern
36 since the July punchlist. He stated that in his most recent conversation with Veit he was told that they
37 would look into it adding that weather could be a factor. He stated that if it is not completed this fall
38 that it would be included as a part of the Warranty period and completed in the spring.
39
40 Chair Jindra asked if the drinking fountain had been addressed. Mr. Koechlien stated the drinking
41 fountain would be addressed in the spring.
4?
• Chair Jindra asked Mr. Koechlien if he is working with Mr. Urdahl on the dugouts.
