Parks and Environmental Commission Regular Meeting Minutes <br />June 10, 2019 <br />Page 3 <br /> <br />E. Minnesota GreenCorp Update. 1 <br /> 2 <br />St. Anthony GreenCorp Member Minette Saulog provided a Minnesota GreenCorp Update. 3 <br />She attended a workshop for SolSmart Communities. St. Anthony received a plaque and are 4 <br />under review for a Silver SolSmart Community. Ms. Saulog reviewed the guest presentations 5 <br />she made, April 25 Workshops, Mayor’s Water Challenge Results, Community Solar Garden 6 <br />Update, Spring Clean Up Day, Organics Recycling Event, RETAP Visit, and St. Anthony at 7 <br />the State Fair on Friday, August 23. Ms. Saulog reviewed her summer plans for projects. Her 8 <br />service ends with the City on August 27. 9 <br /> 10 <br />Chair Jordahl Redlin asked when the partnership with the UofM will begin and Ms. Saulog 11 <br />stated it could be as early as the fall or spring. Chair Jordahl Redlin asked about the solar 12 <br />garden. 13 <br /> 14 <br />F. Pollinator Protection Recommendations. 15 <br /> 16 <br />Chair Jordahl Redlin, representing the Pollinator Friendly Alliance, provided the Commission 17 <br />with Pollinator Protection Recommendations. A resolution has been drafted by City Manager 18 <br />Casey and Chair Jordahl Redlin and this will be discussed with the City Council in a 19 <br />workshop. She asked the Commission for comments to be sent to her via email. The work 20 <br />session will most likely be in July with the City Council. Mr. Hartman stated it will most 21 <br />likely be July 16, 2019. 22 <br /> 23 <br />G. Citizens for Sustainability Updates. 24 <br /> 25 <br />Ms. Lona Doolan provided an update on the Citizens for Sustainability including 2019 26 <br />Successes, Spring Cleanup, CFS Roadmap, Pollinator Protectors and Friends of the Parks. 27 <br />They are continuing to do outreach events on organics recycling. Two master recyclers on the 28 <br />Committee were trained. The 2019 Priorities were presented. Ms. Doolan stated MN is a 29 <br />Leader in Pollinator Protections. She reviewed Proposed MN State Legislation and who the 30 <br />local leaders are in Pollinator Protections. A new organization – Friends of the Parks has been 31 <br />created and the objectives were provided. The desire is to create pollinator areas within the 32 <br />City parks. The first planting is being proposed at Silver Point Park. Ms. Doolan provided a 33 <br />handout to the Commission with further information on the Silver Point Park project. She is 34 <br />requesting funding and signage from the Commission. 35 <br /> 36 <br />Chair Jordahl Redlin asked Mr. Hartman if this should be discussed during the work session. 37 <br /> 38 <br />VII. COMMISSION REPORTS. 39 <br /> 40 <br />Ms. Palmer stated it was another successful school year. Graduation this past Friday was 41 <br />great. A budget has been set for the next school year. 42 <br /> 43 <br />Mr. Hartman stated April 26 was Arbor Tree and Princeton Elm were planted by the Fire 44 <br />Department. On May 4, the City-wide park clean-up was held with many volunteers. The 45 <br />hockey rink at Silver Point Park will be removed and replaced with a portable system. A new 46
