2019 Annual Report • Administration • St. Anthony Village, Minnesota

46

VIII. Community Planning and Economic
Development
In early 2019, the city appointed Stephen Grittman of NAC, Inc as their consultant planner to
complete all planning related work for the city. Stephen serves as the city’s planner, and as the
staff liaision to the Planning Commission. He reviews all land use and development
applications, works with residents on a variety of home improvement projects, and assists with
long range land use planning for the City of St. Anthony.
DEMOGRAPHICS
The City of St. Anthony has 9,067 residents, according to 2018 Metropolitan Council data.
Changes to household makeup over time will affect the relationship between housing stock and
population. Indeed, US Census forecasts for population are higher than Met Council forecasts,
although housing count forecasts are similar. St. Anthony has a higher than average percentage
of residents in the millennial and senior age groups when compared to the Twin Cities area or
the State of Minnesota. These facts will become more important as the city examines policies
and practices around housing, schools planning, and community amenities and services
moving forward.
