2019 Annual Report • Administration • St. Anthony Village, Minnesota

10

GOVERNMENT ALLIANCE ON RACE & EQUITY (GARE)
The City of St. Anthony continues to participate in the GARE program
through the League of Minnesota Cities comprised of governmental
entities from around Metro Area and greater Minnesota to share
experiences and ideas on furthering equity in local government. GARE
is working to advance racial equity and increase opportunities for all
communities and building the field of practice to advance racial equity
within and through government. More information is available on page 32.

ADVANCE OXIDATION PROCESS (AOP) PLANT - CITY OF EXCELLENCE
AWARD
The City of St. Anthony was
recognized by the League of
Minnesota Cities at their annual
meeting with the City of Excellence Award for
our Advance Oxidation Process (AOP) Plant.
Partner coordination was imperative to the
success of this project. The United States Army,
United States Environmental Protection Agency
(EPA), Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA), Minnesota Department of Health (MDH)
and the City worked together, solving the complex problem at a fraction of the cost in typical
solutions within just 18 months of discovery. The sustainable and innovative water treatment
process removes 1,4 dioxane from the environment, entirely. With funding of ten and half
million dollars from the US Army for the project, we kept residents
informed with a robust public relation strategy and are able to provide
clean, safe, drinkable water to the residents of St. Anthony Village with
minimum disruption, anxiety and cost.

More information will be presented in the Public Works Department’s
Annual Report.
