City Council Regular Meeting Minutes <br />October 13, 2020 <br />Page 3 <br /> <br />one of the block parties about if the City would be interested in getting USI Fiber, a company 1 <br />that uses fiber which is a lot faster than what is out there for current technology. He thought 2 <br />there were grounds for considering what was talked about and it might be worth pursuing 3 <br />something like that and worth exploring. He indicated he did a phone conference last week with 4 <br />St. Anthony Village Chamber of Commerce about how it, as an organization can effectively 5 <br />work towards shared goals of inclusion, equity, and social justice. He noted this was an 6 <br />interesting verbal conversation in which he sent the Chamber some feedback and suggestions. 7 <br />As far as the point about USI Fiber and the City’s commitment to robust technology, he thought 8 <br />from a different angle as he thought about equity in St. Anthony Village and in light of the 9 <br />pandemic, it might be interesting to pursue some objective to make internet access available to 10 <br />St. Anthony Village itself, in light of the concerns about equity and so forth. 11 <br /> 12 <br />Mayor Stille explained the City has explored fiber and has also watched other cities as they have 13 <br />tried it, Monticello for one, and in terms of being robust it is great but for practicality the City 14 <br />would have to re-examine that. 15 <br /> 16 <br />Councilmember Jenson stated he attended the Metro Cities Board of Directors meeting as liaison 17 <br />on October 8, 2020 where the four major policy groups were reviewed, transportation, housing, 18 <br />economic development, and service delivery. He was also able to verify that the race and equity 19 <br />policy was embedded into the general government policy. He explained on October 9, 2020, he 20 <br />attended, as liaison to the Ramsey County Local League of Governments meeting where they are 21 <br />coming together as an organization to collectively address mental health. He noted they heard 22 <br />from several leaders. He explained the committee is putting together steps on what they are 23 <br />trying to implement as they work with these organizations. 24 <br /> 25 <br />Mayor Stille stated he attended Night to Unite and went to three parties. He indicated on 26 <br />October 12, 2020 he attended the Regional Council of Mayors where they had two speakers. He 27 <br />noted there were discussions on early voting and race and equity topics. He explained on 28 <br />October 13, 2020 he was at the Mississippi Water Management Organization Zoom Workshop 29 <br />meeting. 30 <br /> 31 <br />VIII. COMMUNITY FORUM. 32 <br /> 33 <br />Mayor Stille invited residents to come forward at this time and address the Council on items that 34 <br />are not on the regular agenda. 35 <br /> 36 <br />Hearing none, Mayor Stille moved forward with the agenda. 37 <br /> 38 <br />IX. INFORMATION AND ANNOUNCEMENTS. 39 <br /> 40 <br />Interim City Manager Yunker indicated he received an announcement from Susan Scott of 2501 41 <br />Paul Avenue NE. He read the announcement. 42 <br /> 43 <br />Mayor Stille stated the developer at Walmart, Kelly Doran, called him on an update of the site. 44 <br />He explained the Village Notes Newsletter went out and summarized some of the topics. He 45 <br />3
