From:Steve Dehler
To:SA City
Subject:Proposed car wash next to the Kenzington
Date:Sunday, January 03, 2021 9:57:47 AM
Caution: This email originated outside our organization; please use caution.
To the Mayor and City Council:
My name is Steve Dehler and a resident of Unit 418 of the Kenzington, which overlooks the trailer park.
I have served as the President of the Board of the Kenzington Homeowners Association for 11 of the past 12 years.
In my younger years, I served as a councilman in St Joseph MN for 16 years and as Mayor for 2 years. I am well
aware of what takes place and how your decisions affect your constituents. I am still on the board at the Kenzington
but currently serving as the Secretary. I am not speaking on behalf of the Board because with the speed of the car
wash project moving to the City Council during a Covid Pandemic and the difficulty of meeting in a normal fashion,
we have not had a chance to discuss the project at a board meeting yet.
First of all, I would ask each of you to watch the planning commission’s hearing, held via Zoom and listen to what is
being said by the residents of the Kenzington and by the members of the commission. The messages speak volumes.
Secondly, the motion to send the approval recommendation to the city council was not acted upon. The only vote
taken was for an amendment to be attached to the original motion. Please have the Planning Commission take up
this issue at their next meeting to bring it before the City Council in a proper and legal manner prior to the Council
accepting their recommendation.
Thirdly, the Kenzington is not just a 5 story building next to an empty gravel lot. It is the home for 150 single
families! It is a home for the hopes and dreams of almost 200 families who have their final years planned with the
desire to live in peace and tranquillity in the city of St Anthony.
Yes, there are many examples of housing being built next to or within a commercial area. These examples are most
likely rental units designed for a more transient population and were probably built next to existing commercial
uses. The sheer imaginations of a noisy (72 decibels is not quiet) steamy car wash being built on property, 12 feet
away from a 5 story Condominium are very unnerving. Combined these with the medical implications of the
constant exposure to the car wash operations and the inability for many residents being unable to ever enjoy having
their windows open or patios used for an enjoyable conversation says to me, that this is not a proper commercial use
for this commercial lot. I, as a friend of all my neighbors here at the Kenzington, am asking you to deny the
conditional use permit application to build a car wash at 2701 Kenzie Terrace.
I am also a friend of the owner of the property and will continue to support his current businesses but am not in
favor of his current endeavor.
Steve Dehler
2601 Kenzie Terrace Unit 418
St Anthony MN. 55418
stevedehler@gmail.com
651-331-1585
87
