2020 Annual Report • Administration • St. Anthony Village, Minnesota

8

75TH ANNIVERSARY
In November, the City of Saint Anthony Village celebrated its 75th
Anniversary of becoming an organized city. The milestone was recognized
with a proclamation read by Mayor Stille at the November 2, 2020 City
Council Meeting along with a presentation on the history of the city by the
Historical Society of St. Anthony Village.
CITY-WIDE SPEED LIMIT
In May 2019, Minnesota State Legislature passed a bill
granting cities the authority to adopt a reduced speed limit
of 25 mph on residential roadways under their jurisdiction
– County and state roads are not included in this authority.
This went into effect August 1, 2019.
Lower speed limits are in line with national trends toward
lower urban speed limits to support safety. The City
recognizes that vehicle speed and pedestrian safety are
high priorities, and this was discussed at the May 4, 2020
City Council Work Session, and was adopted by the City
Council on June 23, 2020.
2040 COMPREHENSIVE PLAN UPDATE
In 2020, the City of St. Anthony completed its update to the City’s
Comprehensive Plan. This three-year process began on January 14,
2016, and over the years The Comp Plan Steering Committee was
created and met twelve times. Also in that time period, input was
collected throughout the process from over 15 engagement
sessions. The Metropolitan Council completed its review, and the plan
was returned to the City Council for adoption and implementation On
April 28, 2020 at the City Council meeting. More information is
available on page 39.
