2020 Annual Report • Public Works Department • St. Anthony Village, Minnesota

8

FLASHING STOP SIGNS
Flashing stop signs at the intersection of 33rd Avenue NE & Rankin Road replaced the typical
standard stop signs for east and west bound traffic. The signs are motion activated as traffic
approaches the intersection. Red LED lights flash around the perimeter of the signs to give
motorists advanced warning of the upcoming four way stop.

CITYWIDE SPEED LIMIT
In May 2019, Minnesota State Legislature passed
a bill granting cities the authority to adopt a
reduced speed limit of 25 mph on residential
roadways under their jurisdiction. Lower speed
limits are in line with national trends toward
lower urban speed limits to support safety.
Slower speeds on streets make travel safer for all
users by reducing the likelihood of a crash, and
for those crashes that do occur, less likely to lead
to death or a life-changing injury.
