2. Drainage Area and Raingarden size
Per email dated April 30th, 2021 from Jeremy Gumke, Public Works Superintendent at St. Anthony Village,
the drainage area adjacent to the culvert at Trillium Park, is approximately 0.10 acres.
There are 43,560 square feet in an acre. Therefore, 0.10 acre will be 4,356 square feet of drainage will be
used to calculate the size of our raingarden.
The percolation test indicated that our soil could infiltrate 24 or more inches in a day (1/2 inch per minute
of infiltration, see percolation test result). In that case our raingarden size can be 181.5 square feet or
less. We based our raingarden size (16 ft wide and 10 ft long) on the location of the hill and existing
shrubbery at Trillium Park.
Calculation: 4,356 𝑠𝑠𝑠𝑠𝑠𝑠𝑠𝑠24 π‘–π‘–π‘–π‘–π‘–π‘–β„Žπ‘’π‘’π‘ π‘ =181.5 𝑠𝑠𝑠𝑠𝑠𝑠𝑠𝑠

 An area calculation was made for our β€˜bean-shaped” 16 x 10 ft raingarden. In conclusion our
raingarden area will be approximately 135 square feet.

3. Soil Assessment
3.1 Percolation Test:
The percolation test was carried out twice, on May 5th and May 6th, 2021. On the first day a hole was dug
12 inches deep and 8 inches wide. After that it was fully filled up with water for a proper saturation.

Initial saturation
