2020 Annual Report • Finance Department • St. Anthony Village, Minnesota 24 VI. Support to Internal and External Agencies INTERNAL - SPIRIT OF ST. ANTHONY AWARD This peer nominated award goes to the employee who demonstrates the characteristics of S.E.R.V.I.C.E an acronym for the values of: Support, Effective, Responsible, Visionary, Innovative, Courteous, and Exemplary. The first award for a Finance Department staff person was received in 2013 by Phuongmai Dang, the City’s License and Permit Specialist. Phuongmai also serves as the primary receptionist and customer service representative when residents or visitors come to City Hall for assistance. Her nomination included phrases like; “…dependable, takes pride in her work, always willing to help others and supportive, courteous to City employees and customers.” In 2018, Sandy Simon, our Accounts Payable Specialist, received the award. Aside from her duties in processing accounts payable, she serves as member of the GARE committee, and is a go-to person for many staff. Her nomination said; “…I find her very supportive when I go to her with questions about and have seen her be very professional and courteous with the public who approaches the front counter. She is responsive to everyone she deals with and has exemplary character. INTERNAL SUPPORTER– JAY E. HARTMAN In November we sadly experienced the passing of Jay Hartman, Saint Anthony’s Public Works Director. Jay was in his forty third year as a city employee and he was part of the fabric of the St Anthony Village community. Jay was always there for the Finance staff in numerous ways, too many to list. His presence is missed, but evidence of his all contributions to the City’s public interests surround us every day. We were lucky to have had him as a co-worker and a friend.
