Also establish a cooling center and add protected bike lanes everywhere in the Village with trees in
between the bike and car lanes
Work with the state to make solar panels more affordable.
Bringing the community together with more and easily accessible information on the subject . I am
not sure that everyone has a clear understanding of both the problems and costs of solutions. I
suspect that changes would be significant financially for many. Such as buying electric vehicles or
installing solar panels. Most people don’t work in our community and riding a bicycle is impractical
in inclement weather for most , particularly as we age. Changes are necessary but may be painful for
many.
There are many possible suggestions, but one that comes to mind: facilitating charging stations for
electric vehicles!
Reduce littering, trash in public spaces and private spaces. Encourage proper home maintenance.
support and implement solar energy use
find more cost effective improvements, likely updating old homes/buildings, and find state/federal
funding to support those improvements
Air and water
Pollution from nearby businesses and traffic
I would need to see more data on which solutions will have the greatest impact .
I would need to see more data on which solutions will have the greatest impact .
Water Quality of Silver Lake. Treat the weeds so residents can swim and fish.
safer bike paths to silverwood adn shops to avoid narrow sidewalks and biking on road (for families
and slower bikers)
None
Sustainable building upgrades. Making it easier/less expensive for homeowners and building owners
to get solar panels. The more self sufficient residents are the easier it is on the city. Have a concrete
plan for emergency situations due to climate related power outages and emergencies. Increased
focus on Environmentally friendly lawns that do not require as much watering or fertilizers which
are both very bad for the environment . The fertilizers go into the drainage ponds that are home to
wildlife including ducks, frogs and geese.
I have some colleagues from other organizations that help communities think about this. I'd like to
see what other communities are doing. Certainly, maximizing storm water management would be a
part & there is money from both federal & state programs for that kind of Infrastructure. Also, I'd like
to see what we can do as a community to get to 80% GHG free by 2035 or 2030, & net zero GHG
emissions (not just carbon) by 2040.
Green energy for all city facilities
Keeping people safe in their homes and outside.
Sustainable approaches to waste management and recycling
Electrify its fleet , transition to solar power for city buildings and charging stations, plant trees,
convert grass to natural habitat
Setting strong but realistic goals for energy use reduction and greenhouse gasses - both city wide
and city operations. Identifying vulnerable populations and the ways to reduce their vulnerability
through building a stronger community, encouraging partnerships, identifying safe shelter and
resilience hubs and services in times of need. Making improvements to transportation infrastructure
to reduce vehicle miles and encourage active transportation. Encouraging and educating home
owners and businesses - especially with energy efficiency improvement opportunities. Increasing
green space and tree canopy to help improve air quality and water runoff. Lead by example. Partner
with neighboring communities and counties to strengthen services and outcomes in a more efficient
way. Fight for legislation that will help us move faster - like strong energy codes and funding for
local climate action and planning. Install solar on public buildings and parking lots.
Sustainable energy and water practices
Not sure
