Parks and Environmental Commission Regular Meeting Minutes <br />September 18, 2023 <br />Page 4 <br />1 to obtain an updated quote Staff sought out another vendor and got a response from Minnesota <br />2 Wisconsin Playground. <br />3 <br />4 During this time the playground structure replacement was in discussion with the <br />5 Commission, and two priorities were identified to include in the new structure under the space <br />6 constraints: <br />7 Accessibility over and above ADA standards. <br />8 Addition of a swing set. <br />9 <br />10 These priorities were discussed with the vendor, and by slightly reconfiguring the trail and <br />11 concrete ring, both priorities were able to be integrated into the available space. A project <br />12 quote, diagram and rendering of the new play structure. <br />13 <br />14 The cost of the new playground structure and addition of safety surfacing in place of the <br />15 existing material, the total cost of the project will be $220,500. <br />16 <br />17 Commissioner Holliday stated he will not be voting because a colleague of his lobbies for <br />18 Minnesota – Wisconsin Playground. He asked if there are funding opportunities available. Mr. <br />19 Gilbertson stated he will provide grant information to the City. He asked if there are any <br />20 considerations to space and parking needs. <br />21 <br />22 Commissioner Doolan asked if the design was inclusive and Mr. Gilbertson stated it is. <br />23 Commissioner Doolan asked about the additions of other pieces. Mr. Gilbertson showed on a <br />24 map where individual pieces can be added. She asked about the base and its durability. Mr. <br />25 Gilbertson suggest a concrete base be utilized which is more durable. <br />26 <br />27 Commissioner Fee asked about the lifespan for this equipment and Mr. Gilbertson stated 20- <br />28 25 years. Any color scheme can be selected. <br />29 <br />30 Commissioner Guest asked Mr. Gumke if MN-WI Playground has been selected as vendor <br />31 and Mr. Gumke stated they provided a quality quote. No other quotes were received. Mr. <br />32 Gilbertson stated they are a State contractor. <br />33 <br />34 Commissioner Doolan thanked Mr. Gumke and Mr. Gilbertson for the information. <br />35 <br />36 Staff requests the Parks and Environmental Commission recommend approval of the project <br />37 to the City Council. Commissioner Doolan stated she would be happy to present this to the <br />38 City Council. Commissioner Holliday stated this is the direction the City should be going. <br />39 Commissioner Doolan stated parking in that area would be the greatest challenge. <br />40 Commissioner Holliday stated there is no price tag for a child growing up having a park such <br />41 as this accessible to them. <br />42 <br />B.43 Parks CIP Review. <br />44 <br />45 City Manager Charlie Yunker reviewed a PowerPoint presentation on the Parks CIP and <br />46 Financial Overview.
