City of St. Anthony Village <br />CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION <br />Minutes <br />February 8, 2024 <br />Present: <br />Mayor & Council: <br />Mayor Wendy Webster, Councilmembers Lona Doolan, Jan Jenson, Thomas Randle, and Andrea <br />Stephens. <br />Falcon Heights Council: <br />Mayor Randy Gustafson, Councilmembers Melanie Leehy, Eric Meyer, Paula Mielke, and Jim <br />Wassenberg. <br />Absent: <br />None <br />Staff: <br />City Manager Charlie Yunker and City Administrator Jack Linehan. <br />Call to Order: <br />Mayor Webster called the Work Session to order at 7:00 p.m. and welcomed all in attendance. <br />1.Joint Meeting with the Falcon Heights City Council to Discuss a Potential Partnership for Police <br />Services. <br />Mayor Gustafson gave an opening statement.Previously Falcon Heights and St.Anthony had a 23 year <br />partnership with policing services.That partnership ended in 2017 after the death of Philandro Castille. <br />Since then,Falcon Heights has contracted services with the Sheriff’s Department.They are seeking <br />another policing vendor.Mayor Gustafson reviewed the goals of the City as far as public safety.He is <br />hoping to reach agreement with St. Anthony for police services for Falcon Heights and Lauderdale. <br />Mayor Webster stated this evening they are discussing the possibility of having a contract with Falcon <br />Heights.Currently St.Anthony continues to provide policing services to Lauderdale.The St.Anthony Police <br />Department is committed to continuous improvement and providing high quality of service to the <br />community. <br />Councilmember Leehy reviewed the Commissions and Task Forces she has served on in Falcon Heights <br />and her work with inclusion. <br />Councilmember Jenson stated he was on the City Council at the time the decision was made to reach out <br />to the Department of Justice.The Police Department has implemented the suggestions provided by the <br />DOJ. He is happy to be part of this discussion in a positive situation. <br />Councilmember Mielke suggested some black leaders from the community be involved in a meeting going <br />forward. <br />3
