St. Anthony City Council Work Session <br />February 8, 2024 <br />Page 2 <br />Councilmember Jenson agreed with Councilmember Mielke on her suggestion.There needs to be <br />community buy-in. <br />Mayor Webster says this meeting is an exploratory phase of the discussion of what a partnership may <br />look like. It will give us an opportunity to see if both City’s values align. <br />Councilmember Wassenberg stated for him transparency is number one combined with the spirit and <br />culture of continuous improvement.He is happy to hear that is the spirit of the St.Anthony Police <br />Department. It is evident in the changes that have been made along with technology updates. <br />Councilmember Doolan stated it is very important that we engage both communities.She would like to <br />understand the process after input is received from the communities. <br />Mayor Webster stated she appreciates Councilmember Doolan’s comment as she has been thinking about <br />how through community engagement we will learn about what we are not thinking about. <br />Councilmember Meyer thanked the Council for hosting this discussion.While door knocking for election, <br />he heard many positive comments from residents about St.Anthony Police Department.He is optimistic <br />and looks forward to further discussions. <br />Councilmember Stephens stated there needs to be a way from the community to give feedback and input <br />ongoing. <br />Councilmember Randle had no comments. <br />Mayor Gustafson agreed this is a process.As much input that can be obtained is important.He suggested <br />we come up with ideas on next steps and then give Staff direction on how to proceed.A good outcome <br />from tonight’s meeting is that we are going to take some steps,although we don’t know what they will be <br />presently. <br />Councilmember Stephens asked if we want to get input from residents. <br />Mayor Gustafson stated that would be good. <br />Councilmember Leehy stated she is hoping that with community involvement,communication between <br />the two cities will improve.Now dialogue is starting.This conversation will stir a lot of emotions for <br />everybody.The bubble of silence needs to be popped.There needs to be a conversation of how the two <br />cities relate to each other.There is a portion of reconciliation that needs to happen.We need to be healthy <br />again. <br />4
