St. Anthony City Council Work Session
February 8, 2024
Page 3
Mayor Webster thanked Councilmember Leehy for her authenticity. She believes it is important to work
through the past. She agreed the reconciliation portion is very important.
Mayor Gustafson asked how we collect input from residents and others. He suggested putting something
on their website to gain input. The use of forms could be used to collect comments.
Councilmember Wassenberg stated some people like to give input in person.
Mayor Webster reviewed what she heard from the St.Anthony Council that there is importance of
creating a process, how do we connect with the community members, need to determine how the
feedback will be used, how questions can be answered as far of the benefits to St.Anthony and the police
department. The importance of open dialogue and reconciliation is needed.
Councilmember Doolan stated transparency is important in the process. There is value in people being
able to express how they feel and see that in the analysis that is done.We need to be able to show that
input is being considered.
Councilmember Jenson stated Council needs to decide how they are going to interpret the inputs. The
information needs to be compiled and shared between the two communities.
Councilmember Leehy stated she received an email from a resident today that she will get to staff to be
compiled with other comments and distributed.
Councilmember Jenson asked how long that feedback process should remain open. There needs to be a
timeline for the collection of input.
Mayor Webster stated community members of Lauderdale should be included. They may be concerned if
their service level would change.
Mayor Gustafson stated we need to get moving on this as soon as possible starting with an online way to
comment. Then setting up town halls, public forums, etc.hopefully within one month or sooner. He
recommended this be staff driven.
Councilmember Doolan suggested St.Anthony look at the outreach plan for the Climate Action Survey
done last summer. We need to get out in the community to get input rather than having people come to
City Hall which can be intimidating for some. The format used will be communicated to Falcon Heights.
Councilmember Jenson stated that they went to organizations within the City and also City events to gain
input.
5
