St. Anthony City Council Work Session <br />February 13, 2024 <br />Page 2 <br />Councilmember Doolan stated all the topics are included in the pyramid and is reflective of what we <br />found out door knocking. <br />Mayor Webster stated since January 1, Council has built on their foundational knowledge. <br />Councilmember Doolan stated it is important to show residents these are the most important things <br />that Council is working on. <br />Mayor Webster thanked Mr. Yunker and Staff for putting this together. <br />B.Discussion on Police Contract Community Engagement <br />Mayor Webster stated at the Work Session with Falcon Heights, we asked Staff to suggest ways that <br />Council can engage the community on the topic of a possible police contract for service. We are in an <br />exploratory process at this time and community engagement is part of that. <br />Councilmember Randle stated there were a number of things missing from the discussion. St. Anthony <br />Police Department was not mentioned along with the trauma suffered by officers. He would not agree <br />to bring in the NAACP. There needs to be a focus on what the Police Officers want. They should have a <br />bigger voice in this decision. There is a concern about the building. Need to decide how many officers <br />would be needed in Falcon Heights. There is a human element to this and how the Police Officers would <br />be affected. <br />Mayor Webster stated that is helpful feedback. She agrees with the concern for the human element. <br />Councilmember Doolan stated Councilmember Randle brought up some very good concerns. We need <br />to work with the Police Department. <br />Councilmember Jenson stated his personal opinion there needs to be some sort of process tool where <br />we can understand how genuine is Falcon Heights willing to restart this policing process. He hopes it is <br />not coming because they have no other choice. <br />Councilmember Stephens stated it would be important to bring everyone together in one room at one <br />time to be part of the decision making process. <br />Councilmember Jenson asked how we can gather this input in a timely fashion. <br />City Manager Yunker stated Councilmember Doolan prepared a process model and a communications <br />schedule.
