SECTION 3 – Five Year Plan <br />Central Park Prairie Restoration/Management (0.55 Acres) <br />2025 <br />a.Outreach planning will begin in the winter and through out the year. This will require some time from all <br />the partners. <br />b.Early Spring (April) cultivate site with disk or field cultivator then roll or use cultipacker to create firm <br />seed bed. <br />c.1-5 days after cultipacking or rolling the site, dig a trench around the perimeter of the seeding site, lay <br />plastic, and bury edges. Also, place biologs along the top edge of the plastic for erosion control. <br />d.Early May check plastic for holes and repair with greenhouse repair tape. <br />e.June – August continue to check regularly and repair as needed. <br />f.September assess weed growth under plastic <br />Low weed pressure : remove plastic and hand weed perennial weeds (or spot spray). <br />High to moderate weed pressure : continue solarization for 2026. <br />g.Late September Early October conduct site prep – remove plastic and manually pull weeds or spot spray. <br />h.Late October or November seeding – broadcast seed mix into the area and roll in seed. <br />2026 <br />i.Outreach implementation will begin in either winter or spring. Hennepin County and grant sources will <br />provide for outreach materials. <br />j.Late May: Release Mow. <br />k.Late June: Release Mow. <br />l.Late July: Release Mow. <br />m.Late August: Release Mow. <br />2027 <br />n.Late May release mow. <br />2028 <br />o.Early/Mid July: IPM noxious weeds (every year here on out) <br />2029 <br />p.Early/Mid July: IPM noxious weeds (every year here on out) <br />2030 <br />q.Prescribed burn <br />In spring to promote warm season native grasses <br />in fall to promote wildflowers and possibly control unwanted woody species <br />2030 and beyond <br />r.Every year in June/July: monitor the prairie for noxious weeds and either cut off the seed <br />heads/pull/spot spray. <br />s.Prescribed burns will happen on 3 year intervals starting with 2030. Next burn is 2033. <br />Try to alternate spring and fall burns. <br />If you cannot do a prescribed burn, either hay the area off in Late September/October or mow <br />the area to the ground in late September/October and collect all cut material and haul or bag off <br />site. <br />The areas need to be burned so if at minimum could do a Burn, Mow/Hay, Burn schedule.
