Silver Point Park Prairie Restoration/Management (0.23 and 0.38 Acres) <br />2025 <br />t.Outreach planning will begin in the winter and through out the year. This will require some time from all <br />the partners. <br />u.Early Spring (April) cultivate site with disk or field cultivator. Use a harley rake attachment for areas on <br />the north side of the sidewalk on the north side of the park. (this is to prevent damaging tree roots. <br />v.5-10 days after cultivating when there is green up. Spray the areas with an organic approved glyphosate <br />alternative herbicide (vinegar solution will do as well). <br />w.Two weeks later, check for any regrowth and either do another round of herbicide from above or <br />conduct site prep. <br />x.Site prep will be going over the seeding area with a cultipacker or roller to smooth and firm the seed <br />bed. <br />y.May 15th or close to this date: Either broadcast and roll in pollinator seed mix with cover crop or no till <br />drill in seed mix with cover crop. <br />z.Late June: Release Mow. <br />aa.Late July: Release Mow. <br />bb.Late August: Release Mow. <br />2026 <br />cc.Outreach implementation will begin in either winter or spring. Hennepin County and grant sources will <br />provide for outreach materials. <br />dd.Late May release mow. <br />2027 <br />ee.Early/Mid July: IPM noxious weeds (every year here on out) <br />2028 <br />ff.Early/Mid July: IPM noxious weeds (every year here on out) <br />2029 <br />gg.Prescribed burn <br />In spring to promote warm season native grasses <br />in fall to promote wildflowers and possibly control unwanted woody species <br />2029 and beyond <br />hh.Every year in June/July: monitor the prairie for noxious weeds and either cut off the seed <br />heads/pull/spot spray. <br />ii.Prescribed burns will happen on 3 year intervals starting with 2029. Next burn is 2032. <br />Try to alternate spring and fall burns. <br />If you cannot do a prescribed burn, either hay the area off in Late September/October or mow <br />the area to the ground in late September/October and collect all cut material and haul or bag off <br />site. <br />The areas need to be burned so if at minimum could do a Burn, Mow/Hay, Burn schedule.
