PAGE | 1 OF 1
MEMORANDUM
To:St. Anthony Village Parks and Environmental Commission
From:Minette Saulog, Sustainability Coordinator
Date:December 2, 2024 Parks & Environmental Commission Work Session
Request:Identify preferred location for pickleball courts
BACKGROUND
During the September 23, 2024 Parks and Environmental Commission (PEC) meeting, the group
discussed the 2025 Parks Capital Improvement Plan (CIP). Previous conversations have identified Central
Park as an overall preferred location for pickleball courts. As a reminder from the September meeting,
the following considerations were identified for the courts:
Pickleball Courts – Estimated $300,000 - $600,000
PEC identified Central Park as overall preferred location
Location could be shared with ice rink w/sound mitigation
or south side of the Pavilion and not share with ice rink
May reduce field space available for sports booster activities
Could consider integrating full basketball court
During this meeting, there was some discussion to have the pickleball courts at another location. The
Well-House Park courts are currently used for both tennis and pickleball, but the courts are in aging
condition. In early November, staff submitted an Age-Friendly Minnesota Community Grant with MN
Department of Human Services to resurface the existing courts. Staff will learn the outcome of the grant
in February. If awarded, staff anticipate that the aging courts would be replaced, which would grant the
PEC more time to develop a long-term vision for pickleball in the city.
At this time, PEC should identify a final preferred location for future pickleball courts.
ACTION
PEC to provide staff with recommendation on preferred long-term pickleball court location.
