March 25, 2025 St. Anthony Council Work Session - 3 The goal of electrification is to move away from natural fossil fuels to electricity. The goal is to reduce natural gas use by 2040. Councilmember Jenson asked what an air source heat pump is and Ms. Weck stated it heats and cools homes with electricity. Councilmember Doolan asked if we will be partnering with the schools as well. Ms. Weck stated that is called out in the partners and is important to the Energy Action Team. Councilmember Doolan asked about Xcel’s communication plan for rebates on appliance purchases. Ms. Sophia Troutman stated contractors and some stores are partnered and inform customers. A draft of the Energy Action Plan was provided for discussion and review. To date, revisions have been incorporated from staff, Energy Action Team members, and PEC. For this review, staff would like Council to review the draft plan with a focus on the Strategies and Actions in pages 30-35 of the Plan. The final Energy Action Plan will be presented at the April 8, 2025, City Council Meeting for approval and adoption. Once adopted, an 18-month implementation period will begin with the support of Partners in Energy (Xcel Energy and the Center for Energy & Environment), along with opportunities for staff to partner with the Parks & Environmental Commission and various community groups for outreach and engagement. Future Agenda Items: The next Work Session Meeting will be held on April 8, 2025. Councilmember Doolan stated she would like an update on changing the voting elections from off-year to even year. She asked when the results will come out. Mayor Webster stated there is a bill in the Senate regarding moving all City and School elections to even year elections.
