She reviewed the <br />general grant objectives of the program and stated the program provides home safety <br />assessments to 25 older adults living in the City along with recommendations to make their <br />homes more safe and functional and each grant participant receives $500 to make modifications <br />to their home. She stated that all residents aged 65 or older who own their own home are eligible <br />for the program. She stated they conducted two community education sessions for residents to <br />learn about the grant and things they could do at a low cost to make their homes more safe and <br />functional. She stated they also held a three-day training course geared toward builders and <br />remodelers about communicating and marketing with older adults about aging in place. She <br />advised the home assessments to grant participants are ongoing and they will continue their <br />education and outreach with local organizations as well as providing a half day training session <br />to local businesses about aging in place and universal design. She indicated further information <br />regarding the program is available by calling (612) 238-5429 or at www.AccessSolutions.org. <br />Councilmember Jenson asked if there has been a strong demand for services in the City. <br />Ms. Boroff replied their sessions have been well attended but they have not yet reached 25 <br />participants. <br />Mayor Faust encouraged residents to contact Ms. Boroff or Ms. Wendy Webster or City <br />Manager Casey if they have questions regarding the program. He also encouraged Ms. Boroff to <br />work with Ms. Webster and City Manager Casey on outreach to the condominium associations. <br />He requested that information regarding the program be included in the City's newsletter. He <br />expressed the City Council's thanks to Ms. Boroff for her efforts on behalf of the City. <br />B. A Resolution Authorizing Participation in the 2013-2014 GreenCorps Program. Mark <br />Casey, City Manager, presenting. <br />City Manager Casey explained the City was awarded a GreenCorp member for the 2012-2013 <br />program year and the City needs to make application to be a host site for 2013-2014. <br />Motion by Councilmember Roth, seconded by Councilmember Jenson, to approve Resolution <br />13-035; a Resolution Authorizing Participation in the 2013-2014 GreenCorps Program. <br />Motion carried unanimously. <br />VII. REPORTS FROM CITY MANAGER AND COUNCIL MEMBERS. <br />City Manager Casey reminded residents of the City's annual cleanup day on Saturday, May 0, <br />at the Public Works Garage. He stated a flyer was included in the utility bill listing acceptable <br />items adding document shredding will be available and fluorescent bulbs accepted at no charge. <br />Councilmember Jenson reported on his attendance at the following: <br />• April 13th meeting of the St. Anthony New Brighton District #283 task force meeting. <br />• April 15`h City Council work session that included discussion about storm water, City Hall <br />maintenance and improvements, social media policy, the City logo and branding, the police <br />contract, the annual League conference, and the City's annual cleanup day. <br />
