City Council Regular Meeting Minutes <br />January 14, 2014 <br />Page 3 <br />1 all residents of St. Anthony are assured of NYFS services regardless of their ability to pay and <br />2 for every dollar that is invested, NYFS has seen an approximate $4 return on investment. He <br />3 presented the 2012-2013 service summary and advised that 29 St. Anthony households received <br />4 services in 2012. He also discussed current trends including increased mental health issues, <br />5 achievement gaps, the ripple effect of the recession, and an aging population. He stated they are <br />6 also revisiting the current models to make sure programs are effective given the limited dollars <br />7 available. He advised that NYFS was recently awarded a contract for diversion services in <br />8 Ramsey County and they are also working with an organization that offers services for seniors, <br />9 including mental health services for seniors. He stated that NYFS partnerships include fifteen <br />10 communities, nine school districts, as well as the faith community and they are working hard to <br />11 reach out to businesses. He expressed appreciation for the City's continued support. <br />12 <br />13 Mayor Faust stated the City has provided support to NYFS since the beginning and would <br />14 continue to support the organization as much as possible. He encouraged Mr. Hromatka to <br />15 contact the City Manager if there is some way the City can support the organization in terms of <br />16 visibility and increased awareness of NYFS programs. He expressed the City Council's thanks <br />17 to Mr. Hromatka and stated the City looks forward to continuing to work together in the future. <br />18 <br />19 VII. REPORTS FROM CITY MANAGER AND COUNCIL MEMBERS. <br />20 <br />21 City Manager Casey indicated the City Council previously adopted a resolution in support of a <br />22 grant application to the Twins Community Fund and was pleased to announce that the City was <br />23 awarded $16,000, which will be used toward the dugouts and baseball field at Central Park. He <br />24 reported that on Saturday, January I I d', he had the privilege to speak at the one-year anniversary <br />25 of "Citizens for Sustainability," adding that this is an active, engaged group of residents working <br />26 with the City on a variety of sustainable initiatives. He stated the group is always looking for <br />27 people to participate and they meet on the second Saturday of each month at City Hall. <br />28 <br />29 Councilmember Roth wished residents a Happy New Year. He reported on his attendance at the <br />30 Sister City meeting on January 12th. He stated the next meeting is on March 2nd at 7:00 p.m. at <br />31 City Hall and they are always looking for volunteers who want to participate. He advised that <br />32 FinnFest will be held in August and the location has not yet been finalized. He agreed to provide <br />33 further information including the date of the event when the details are confirmed. <br />34 <br />35 Councilmember Stille — no report. <br />36 <br />37 Councilmember Gray — no report. <br />38 <br />39 Councilmember Jenson reported that the St. Anthony Historical Society is producing a WWII <br />40 book that should be available in February. <br />41 <br />42 Mayor Faust reported on his attendance at the January 130i Regional Council of Mayors meeting. <br />43 He stated the Urban Land Institute's advisory board joined the meeting that included a <br />44 presentation by Professor Bill Melton from the State Board of Economic Advisors. He stated <br />45 that a representative from Greater MSP will be making a presentation to the City Council in the <br />46 near future about job growth. He also reported on his attendance at the January 14th MWMO <br />47 meeting and advised that Minneapolis City Councilmember Kevin Reich was elected Chair and <br />
