REPORTS I+RONI COMMISSION AND KTAFF. <br />A. Overview_from Hennepin C_ountv Cotmcnissloner and Metropolitan Council <br />Commissioner_ <br />Marls Stenglein, Iiennepin County Commissioner, said he was raised in St. Anthony Village. He <br />explained the size and scope of Hconepin County is the largest of the seven counties. On a local <br />level, he said that St. Anthony is enjoying the larger library. The County Board has a <br />commitment of a larger library. lie said they are committed to the road system as well. Silver <br />Lake Road is in need of maintenance and the plan is to complete a rebuild including new <br />underground utilities and fiber optic. He stated they would like to work that into the 'budget next <br />year or the following year. He said he has the support of the County Board. lie complimented <br />the Council on the old Apache Plaza site. He said the Hennepin County Regional Rail Authority <br />bought the right of way near the railroad tracks as a future transit way. <br />Councilmember Thuesen said that Silver Lake Road is a high priority and that it should be made <br />a safe, walk -able area. He said the City would appreciate any help Commissioner Stenglein <br />could give. <br />Commissioner Stenglein said Silver Lake Road is a connector, acid had added that he warns cities <br />that when the County Engineers come in, their objective is to move traffic as fast as they can. <br />The engineers are used to working with rural roads, and will have to understand that this road has <br />residences on it. This will be a pedestrian friendly thoroughfare. <br />Councilmember Thuesen said he is concerned about the potential increase in traffic, and <br />indicated the City would want the traffic to be calmed. <br />Mayor Faust thanked Commissioner Stenglein for his encouraging words. He added that putting <br />utilities underground and adding fiber optics are leading edge. He thanked the Commissioner for <br />K <br />
