(763) .541-1700 (fax) Mentorli72C din
To: honorable Mayos, City Council, and Staff; St. Anthony Village
From: Todd Llubiner, P.E.
Lynn Kiesow, P.F. d
Chuek.Rickart, P.E., P.T.O.E re --
Date: Tune 22, 2005
.Re: St. Anthony Fire Station Flashing Beacon Justification
WS13 Project No. 1626-04
']'he city of St. Anthony received comments concerning the visibility of fire trucks entering and
exiting the St. Anthony lire Station. In response, WS13 & Associates completed a site review,
and determined that the sight distance is limiting the gap for trucks to enter and exit the fire
station. Therefore, an advanced, flashing aarnin,- beacon is recominended for the St. Anthony
Fire Station.
Existing Conditions
The St. Anthony Tire Station was constructed in 2004 along the east side of CR 136 (Silver Lake
Road). The fire station has two access roads. The one to the north of the station acts as the
entrance for trucks, and provides parking for fire fighters. The southern access acts as the exit
for trucks, and provides access to Figure 1
additional parking. The fire station Sight Limitations at Fire Station Entrance —
houses three trucks, making about 750 Southbound View
calls per year.
Silver Lake Road extends from CR J to
St. Anthony Parkway, and is functionally
classed as a minor arterial by Ilennepin
County. The corridor is a two-lane
facility, carrying about 9,200 vehicles per
day. Near the fire station, Silver Lake
Road reaches a vertical peals. This
alignment reduces the sight distance for
motorists, and limits the gap for trucks to
enter and exit the fire station. The sight
line limitation on southbound Silver Lake
Road is illustrated on Figure 1.
xr\ols26-04\ndnmVOocsvtiorii-041505-rtios,anoiiscoas.doc
