Memorandum
May 16, 2006
It is likely that vehicles southbound on Silver Lake Road will try to avoid the
long queues and squeeze into the single through lane at the intersection of 37th
Avenue N.E. rather than waiting at the end of the queue. This will create
safety problems and potential blockage of the right -turn lane.
Northbound traffic that backs up on Silver Lake Road south of 37th Avenue
N.E. will be longer, potentially blocking 36th Avenue N.E. The queue will be
longer with only one through lane southbound because more green time will
have to be provided for southbound traffic on Silver Lake Road to minimize
the length of the southbound backup on Silver Lake Road.
The additional delays and congestion that are expected to occur with only one
southbound through lane may cause traffic to cut through the area on local
streets in order to avoid the 37th Avenue and Silver Lake Road Intersection.
"',w-sb6`1projccts10t538-02`Traftic%HC Silver!u CR D\060417\Mcmo.doc
