Too Big Too Small ht Size No Response
Cart Size: 70(170/,) 18 (4%) 250(600/,) 338(810/,)
Bi -Weekly Pick Up:
Not Enough Too Much JiLsIt Eight
30 (7%) 7(2'/.) 304(730/,)
74(18%)
This survey, as I stated earlier, was done only with Walter's Recycling customers. The haulers from BFI and
Waste Management agreed to have Mr. Sederstrom do the survey. They would all like to have the City .
Ordinance language changed to allow recycling pick-up on a bi-weekly basis.
With a single -sort program, all items that are considered recyclable are put into one container; no garbage is
allowed to be mixed with these recyclables. Because garbage by -necessity has to be treated differently, collecting
it weekly continues to be desirable in St. Anthony for the public health of the community and the haulers are in
agreement with this requirement. Recyclable materials are considered "clean" materials and as such, the industry
does not judge there to be a need for this material to be collected weekly.
Several Metro -area cities, including: Blaine, Shoreview, Anoka, Arden Hills and New Brighton have adopted or
will be adopting single -sort recycling programs.
Attachments:
• Proposed Revised Ordinance Language
• Walter's Recycling Survey Results and Cover Letter
• Resident's E-mail
• Various Articles, Meeting Minutes
• Minnesota Office of Environmental Assistance and Minnesota Pollution Control Agency Recycling
Collection Study Summary (06/07/2006)
F:\Staff Reports\05302006 Single Sort Recycling Ord Rev.doc
12
