In addition, the City has flyers available in the City Hall information rack and handouts are given to
new residents when they come in to pick up their recycling bins. This information is also easily
available to anyone else who comes in.
The City also organizes and promotes an annual Spring Clean -Up day. The Recycling
Coordinator works with the local newspapers and community groups to encourage and maintain
recycling efforts throughout the City.
The City has been working with Ramsey County on source reduction efforts citywide. Because
the City is in two counties, only those residents that live in Ramsey County are able to use the yard
waste sites. Residents that live in Hennepin County cannot access the Ramsey County yard waste
sites need to take their yard waste to sites in Hennepin County. Both agencies are in the process of
negotiating and approving a joint powers agreement whereby Hennepin County residents of St.
Anthony are permitted to flake their yard waste to Ramsey County sites.
7. What measurable goals do you have for waste reduction and recycling activities in 2007? At
least ONE measurable goal must be listed. Please describe how you will measure progress
toward those goals and how activities will be evaluated.
The City will be monitoring the progress of the single -sort recycling pilot program through monthly
tonnage and participation reports. We expect to see an increase of 15% in the amount of curbside
recyclable materials collected. We also anticipate an increase in participation due to redevelopment
activities occurring in the area of the former Apache Plaza site.
How will the municipality monitor or audit activities conducted by any contractors or
subcontractors?
City Staff will review the monthly tonnage and participation reports that are required to be
submitted by the residential haulers that work in St. Anthony. The information provided by theses reports
is also used to complete the annual SCORE grant reports submitted to the County.
21
