Planning Commission Meeting Minutes <br />October 17, 2006 <br />Page 3 <br />2 -Mr. Archambeau replied he believed they were roughly 13 or 14 inches high. <br />3 <br />4 Commissioner Jenson asked Mr. Archambeau if the proposed 14.5 inches would replicate what is <br />5 currently in place. <br />6 <br />7 Mr. Archambeau replied the proposed sign would be no larger than the current sign. He <br />8 displayed a graphic of the proposed sign stating only two of the products carried would be <br />9 displayed; a smaller space for the sign may be required. He mentioned the current sign advertises <br />10 three pro ducts . <br />11 <br />12 Commissioner Jensen asked Assistant City Manager Moore -Sykes if what is proposed is that <br />13 okay the height be limited to the smaller of the two sizes displayed on the graphic; he did not see <br />14 the harm in having a 21 -inch number if that is what has been submitted in the package. <br />15 <br />16 Mr. Archambeau replied the upper portion of the sign is 21.5 inches; what is written in the packet <br />17 is that the numbers themselves could not be more than 14.5 inches in height. Mr. Archambeau <br />18 stated the way he interprets the display is the top portion of the sign would be 21.5 inches. He <br />19 stated he is not sure of the exact height of the digital display. <br />20 <br />21 Chair Stromgren stated if it stays as written, Mobil would have the option of making it smaller or <br />22 adding the third product. <br />23 <br />24 Assistant City Manager Moore --Sykes stated at the last meeting, the Commissioners talked about <br />25 the size and not wanting them more than 14.5 inch high. She mentioned this is the public <br />26 hearing for changes to the ordinance. She mentioned Council would hold three readings. <br />27 Assistant City Manager Moore -Sykes stated if the Commission wants to suggest a taller font size, <br />28 Staff could do that. <br />29 <br />30 Chair Stromgren commented, based on his unscientific survey, the current size at the stations in <br />31 St Anthony seem to work fine. He stated electronic signs would be that much more obvious and <br />32 easer to read; the larger size would not be needed for slower speed streets. He stated that 'if they <br />33 were on an interstate, it would be different. <br />34 <br />35 Commissioner Jensen stated the rewriting of the code applies only if the sign is on a pylon sign. <br />36 He explained a number of businesses have a monument signs and he did not see why the benefit <br />37 could not be carried over to the monument signs also. <br />38 Commissioner Galyon asked Commissioner Jensen if he was referring to only gas stations. <br />39 . <br />.40 Commissioner Jensen stated what is often seen in a refurbished gas station is a sign incorporated <br />41 into a monument sign. He stated he did not see why it must state only a pylon sign or what harm <br />42 it ,would cause the community to include a monument sign. <br />43 <br />44 Assistant City Manager Moore -Sykes stated the applicant had asked the pylon sign to become <br />45 electronic because it is the most difficult to reach manually. <br />AKA <br />
