Planning Commission Meeting Minutes <br />October 17, 2006 <br />Page 4 <br />1 <br />2 Chair Stromgren replied the current code is written for gas price signage to be on a pylon. Re <br />3 stated Commissioner Jensen is correct in that a number of signs are monument style in and out of <br />4 the City. <br />5 <br />6 Commissioner Jensen responded the Commission is attempting to update the code to deal with <br />7 current and future conditions. He stated during the reading process, he would like to insure <br />8 monument signs are included so another amendment would not be needed later. <br />9 <br />10 Chair Stromgren reported receiving one email from Mr. Dennis Cavanaugh expressing his <br />11 concern about the impact an electronic sign would have on the neighborhood. <br />12 <br />13 Chair Stromgren closed the public hearing at 7:17 p.m. <br />14 <br />15 Commissioner Jensen remarked the Commission should deal with monument signs as well as <br />16 pylon signs for gas stations. He stated perhaps the proposal should be sent back to Staff to <br />17 include monument signs. <br />18 <br />19 Chair Stromgren replied he is not sure if this is referenced in another subsection. <br />20 <br />21 Commissioner Jensen responded he is offering an amendment to ensure changeable copy is <br />22 allowed regardless of the sign type and to continue the reading process forward. He stated he is <br />23 confident staff would find the correct wording. Commissioner Jensen recommended wording in <br />24 subdivision two of the amendment. <br />25 <br />26 Chair Stromgren pointed out the fist sentence where pylon is also referenced. <br />27 <br />28 Commissioner Jensen recommended making a global change. <br />g g <br />29 <br />30. Commissioner Jenson asked if both monument and pylon signs are freestanding. He suggested <br />31 leaving the word freestanding to represent both monument and pylon signs. <br />32 <br />33 Chair Stromgren replied monument and pylon signs are both defined in the beginning of Chapter <br />34 .14. He state this would keep everything consistent and ensure a reference is not missed. <br />35 Commissioner Jensen stated it is an attempt to make a copy change sooner than later rather than <br />36 in the middle of the winter. <br />37 <br />38 Chair Stromgren stated he wants to make sure it remains monument or pylon so it could not <br />39 become attached to the building. He stated only one monument sign with the LED is allowed per <br />40 business. <br />41 <br />42 Commissioner Jensen pointed out subdivision two mentions one sign only. He asked Assistant <br />43 City Manager Moore -Sykes if the Commission could forward this to the City Council along with <br />44 the friendly amendments and discussion. <br />45 <br />53 <br />
