City Council Regular Meeting Minutes <br />November 28, 2006 <br />Page 12 <br />2 City Manager Mornson reported no Planning Commission Meetings would be held in December, <br />3 as there are no items for consideration. He explained this also means a Council Meeting is not <br />4 required on December 26, 2006. <br />6 City Manager Mornson reported Police Chief Ohl would attend the December 11, 2006 Council <br />7 Meeting to discuss amending the police contract with Lauderdale from 16 hours to 24 hours of <br />8 police protection effective January 1, 2007. He mentioned Lauderdale would consider the <br />9 amendment on December 12, 2006. <br />10 <br />11 Councilmember Thuesen reported he attended the League of Minnesota Cities Metro Regional <br />12 meeting on November 16, 2006. He mentioned the meeting touched on demographic trends <br />13 facing Minnesota with the aging baby boomer population and looking forward to the next <br />14 Legislative session. <br />15 <br />16 Councilmember Gray reported attending the St. Anthony Middle School Association on <br />17 November 20, 2006. He stated the topic was the morning and afternoon congestion caused when <br />18 parents drop off and pick up students. He mentioned possible options for resolving the <br />19 congestion were discussed and the Middle School was encouraged to work with City Staff on a <br />20 solution. <br />21 <br />22 Mayor Faust reported he met with the Hennepin County Assessor on November 16, 2006 for an <br />23 update. <br />24 <br />25 Mayor Faust stated he attended the League of Minnesota Cities Board Meeting and the League <br />26 of Minnesota Cities Metro Regional Meeting on November 16, 2006. <br />27 <br />28 Mayor Faust stated that on November 19, 2006 he had the opportunity to attend the Sister City <br />29 Association Annual Meeting. He reported Dr. Mika Aaltola, Adjunct Professor of International <br />30 Relations from University of Tampere, Finland. He stated Dr. Aaltola previously worked as a <br />31 visiting researcher at the University of Cambridge. He received his BA at Columbia University <br />32 and received his Doctorate at the University of Tampiree. Mayor Faust stated Dr. Aaltola spoke <br />33 on Finnish Foreign Policy, Style and Tradition. He stated this gave him a great understanding of <br />34 the geopolitical aspects of where they live. Mayor Faust mentioned to his wife that this was a <br />35 $500 course they received for nothing. He stated it was insightful into the Finnish psyche and <br />36 gives more credence to some of the things the Finnish say during visits. <br />37 <br />38 Mayor Faust indicated he facilitated a Cooperative Community Resource Forum with the Vital <br />39 Aging Council on November 21, 2006. He stated it was a way to share with all the non - <br />40 governmental organizations in the City the number of functions Vital Aging could be involved. <br />41 He stated everyone came away with good thoughts about what they could do and the different <br />42 ways to provide volunteers to other organizations.
