Planning Commission Meeting Minutes <br />January 16, 2007 <br />Page 9 <br />Mr. Hahn stated the Park District would be excited about opening the park when Phase I is <br />complete and he assumes a large number of people would attend. He stated that in this case they <br />would plan to have shuttle service for the opening day of the park. <br />Mr. Horn clarified by pointing out where Phase I parking spaces would be. He stated this <br />includes 155 paved parking spaces and the 68 overflow parking spaces in the grassy area. <br />9 Ms. McCloud stated there is room to expand the grassy area if needed. <br />10 <br />11 Commissioner Galyon asked what type of lighting was planned for the parking area. <br />12 <br />13 Mr. Horn replied they would follow the Park District and local zoning standards for lighting <br />14 requirements. He explained the lighting is a down light in the parking area only. <br />15 <br />t6 Ms. McCloud mentioned there would be limited lighting to the visitor center and possibly low <br />17 level lighting. She explained the Park District did not generally light the trails. <br />18 <br />19 Commissioner Jensen asked if cross country ski trails would be included. <br />20 <br />21 Mr. Hahn replied cross county ski trails are not planned at this time. He explained poles on the <br />22 paved trail are destructive and not conducive to vigorous cross country skiing. Ile stated there <br />23 would be snow shoeing activities. <br />24 <br />25 Commissioner Jenson complemented them on the detailed analysis as they tried to anticipate and <br />26 understand scenarios. <br />27 <br />28 Vice Chair Hanson stated this would be a great asset to the community and asked when Phase I <br />29 would begin. <br />30 <br />31 Mr. Horn replied construction should begin this summer. <br />32 <br />33 Vice Chair Hanson asked what the timeline might be. <br />34 <br />35 Mr. Horn did not want to put an actual date but perhaps some trails would be open in 2008. <br />36 <br />37 Commissioner Jenson asked when it would be open for walking. <br />38 <br />39 Mr. Horn replied probably summer or fall 2008. <br />40 <br />41 Vice Chair Hanson asked Staff if a public hearing would be held. <br />42 <br />43 Assistant City Manager Moore -Sykes stated that according to the ordinance, Council must <br />44 approve any parking plan for recreation open space. She stated there would probably be a public <br />45 hearing or review of the plan to give the Council a chance to review it. <br />33 <br />
