1 EXISTING CONDITIONS
3.1. Waternmin
The existing water distribution mains in the project area were installed in 1956 and
consist of 4 -inch cast iron pipe (CIP). This system has experienced breaks in the past and
is likely to experience future breaks as the pipes are exceeding 50 years of service. in
addition, the cast iron pipes are probably heavily corroded and possibly leaking.
3.2. Storm Sewer
Stormwater within the alley either drains overland toward Craft Drive or into the
backyards of the homes located on the east side of the alley which have experienced
minor flooding during heavy rain and snow melting events. The Arbors Townhome
Community currently has a storm sewer system to collect drainage within the
Association.
3.3. Streets
The proposed reconstruction area consists of a 12 -Foot wide bituminous alley without
curb and gutter. Soil borings have not been performed at this location; however, the
extensive rutting of the existing surface in the project area is indicative of the poor
subgrade soils found throughout the city.
Feasibility Report
Arbors Alley Roadway and Utility Improvement Project
City of St. Anthony
WS13 Project No. 1626-42
Page 4
