Continues to work well.
® Fire Department Education and Training Program still in development. Currently St. Anthony
Healthcare Center contracts with us to provide CPR refresher training to their staff, 5 classes done in
2008. On -duty personnel do not lead the classes, so it does not take away from the city's coverage
and the class is not interrupted for emergency calls.
e One live fire training drill was conducted at St. Paul. We also rented the SOBA Maze Trailer which
is integral in rookie training and as a refresher for experienced Fire Fighters.
e The drill theme of the year was "The first 5 minutes". Focus was on what can be done and what each
person's responsibility is in the initial stages of an event.
® Six rookies were hired and began the training process in May. 2 dropped out. We train our people
with in-house instructors to provide customized training and save money on the cost of outside
classes. The time line for our rookie program encompasses about 18 months from the onset of
training to being sworn in as a Fire Fighter.
