Staff advised Mr. Bjornrud of the process and the City's sign ordinance at 155.29 DISTRICT SCHEDULES, (D), states that while electronic signs are permitted with an approved CUP in a Recreational/ Open Space Zoning District; flashing and animation are not permitted (2)(a); and hours of operation are restricted (2)(b). Application Review and Analysis: As part of the application, Mr. Bjornrud indicated that the proposed electronic sign will replace the two (2) signs that existed previously; one identified the St. Anthony Middles School and one identified the St. Anthony High School. One double -sided electronic sign will be used by both schools to communicate events to the community. 1. The requested conditional use is one of the Permitted Conditional Uses specifically listed for the zoning district in which the conditional use is located. City Code at 155.29 DISTRICT SCHEDULES, (D) Recreational Open Space, states that electronic signs are permitted with an approved CUP in the Recreational/ Open Space zoning district. 2. That the requested conditional use permit will not be detrimental to health, safety or general welfare of persons residing or working in the vicinity or injurious to property values of improvements in the area. The School District plans to replace the two (2) existing ground signs at the St. Anthony Middle School and the St. Anthony High School with one electronic sign. Mx. Bjornrud has indicated that the School District will adhere to City requirements regarding hours of operation of the sign. The City Code states that in no event shall the sign be permitted to be operated between the hours of 10:00 p.m, and 6:00 a.m., 155.29(D)(2)(b). 07212009 Council CUP 3303 33rd Ave electronic sign.doc
