Staff advised Mr. Bjornrud of the process and the City's sign ordinance at 155.29 DISTRICT SCHEDULES, (D), states that while electronic signs are permitted with an approved CUP in a Recreational/ Open Space Zoning District; flashing and animation are not permitted(2)(a); and hours of operation are restricted (2)(b). As part of the application, Mr. Bjornrud indicated that the proposed electronic sign would replace the existing ground sign at Wilshire Park Elementary. One double - sided electronic sign will be used to communicate events to the community. At the public hearing before the Planning Commission, discussion of the sign location revealed concerns that the sign might be too close to the semaphore. Mr. Bjornrud stated that the proposed sign location is outside of the right-of-way for 37th Avenue but was not able to get definitive information from the County about the required distance that the sign needs to be from the semaphore. He reported that he would try to obtain that information before the Council meeting on Tuesday evening. He also indicated that he would talk with the School District about the possibility of moving the proposed electronic sign to the location of the existing sign. Application Analysis: L The requested conditional use is one of the Permitted Conditional Uses specifically listed for the zoning district in which the conditional use is located.
