Crime Prevention Summary <br />2013 Annual Report · Police Department · St. Anthony Village, Minnesota <br /> <br />On June 12th and 13th the St. Anthony Police Department <br />with the assistance of the St. Anthony Fire Department, St. <br />Anthony Community Services and Falcon Heights Parks and <br />Recreation held its third annual Summer Survival School at <br />Central Park. The event brought 51 incoming 4th graders <br />from St. Anthony, Falcon Heights and Lauderdale area for <br />two days of safety education. Topics included Firearms <br />Awareness, Internet Safety, Summer Weather Awareness, <br />Electrical Safety, Bike Safety, 911 Dispatch, Physical <br />Fitness Awareness and Drug Awareness and Safety. The <br />campers also had visits from the Hennepin County Crime <br />Lab, the East Metro Swat Team, Roseville Police K-9, and <br />the State Patrol Helicopter. <br />The kids had a chance to visit the fire station, operate working fire hoses, Learn CPR and dress up in fire gear. <br />Lunches were provided by Culver’s and Broadway Pizza of St. Anthony. All campers received a certificate of <br />completion as well as a Summer Survival School T-Shirt. The police department looks forward to the 4th Annual <br />Summer Survival School coming in 2014. <br />June, July and August are particularly busy <br />months for the SAPD, and the crime prevention <br />unit, as a lot of planning goes into ensuring that <br />events like MN Night to Unite, Villagefest, and the <br />5K run/walk, sponsored by Fitness Crossroads, go <br />off as planned. Our police reserve unit donated <br />over 150+ hours to ensure that these events <br />were safe for all who attended. <br />July: <br />• Chief John Ohl and Sgt. Jon Mangseth attended <br />the city council meeting. The MN Night to <br />Unite Proclamation was read and passed. Sgt. <br />Mangseth provided an update to the council on the <br />department crime prevention programs. <br />• Sgt. Jeff Spiess spoke to the Faith United <br />Methodist Church MOMS group, which is <br />comprised of mothers and their young children. <br />The topic was home safety, which was followed <br />up with a discussion of police equipment and a <br />tour of a squad car. <br />August: <br />• Sgt. Jon Mangseth met with the administrative <br />council at Faith United Methodist Church. <br />Questions were answered regarding trespassing <br />laws, restraining orders, and general crime <br />prevention/member safety at the church. <br />• Chief John Ohl and Sgt. Jeff Spiess provided <br />an Active Shooter presentation and drill with <br />community service personnel. <br />• Forty three St. Anthony neighborhood groups <br />joined thousands across the state to celebrate <br />MN Night to Unite. This was our 29th year of <br />celebrating this special night in St. Anthony.
