630 <br />REGULAR MEETING, WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 23, 1955 <br />Meeting called to order at 7:l~0 P.M., with all council members present as follows: <br />Robert E. Stenzinger, Mayor; George J. Shavor, Trustee; Andrew Hustrulid, Trustee; <br />David P. Cartwright, Trustee; Clyde J. Stewart, Clerk. Also. present: William E. <br />Olsen, Treasurer, and Frank N. Graham, Attorney. <br />Minutes of regular meeting, November 9, 1955, and special meeting and hearing of <br />November 15, 1955, Were heard and approved as read. <br />Reqn. #68 covering election supplies, and supplies needed for Clerk's and <br />Treasurer's offices, was approved on motion by Hustrulid, seconded <br />by Cartwright. <br />Snovr fence The Clerk reported receiving a request from Mr. and Mrs. Eugene <br />Leonard, 1767 Fry Street, that snow fence be installed to take <br />care of drifting snow from open University farm land in their area. <br />The Leonards stated that about 170 feet of snow fence was needed. <br />The Clerk reported there were six rolls of snow fence at the <br />Village Hall, including about 175 feet, and that the Leonards asked <br />if they might be permitted to put up the fence themselves at no <br />cost to the Village. After discussion, it was agreed to have <br />Engineer Don Carley, who was present, check into and report on the <br />matter. <br />Fire Dept. Acting Volunteer Fire Chief Earl W. Grumke's letter of November <br />matters 23, 1955, was read, reporting as follows: <br />"~ that a meeting of the entire Falcon Heights Volunteer Fire <br />depar tment, excepting two members, was held November 22, 1955, <br />and the following action taken: <br />"It was voted 1O-`to 5 to have a volunteer Fire thief instead of <br />a paid Chef and to hire a third driver to fill the resulting <br />vacancy. <br />"That the Council forward an application blank for said position <br />to Ray Merkle, who is on leave of absence from the department <br />because of service in the Army. He has been with various fire <br />service departments in the service and has expressed his desire <br />to become a full time fireman in Falcon Heights if a position were <br />open. We understand he will be discharged from the Army in <br />December. <br />"That Earl Grumke be elected to serve as Volunteer Fire Chief <br />until the annual Department election itt 1957. <br />"The Department feels that the paid men should be remunerated at <br />the same rate as the volunteers for aYfwering alarms and attending <br />drills on their off time." <br />Paid men After discussion, Cartwright moved that the paid firemen when off <br />remunerated duty be compensated at the same rate as received by the volunteers <br />for attending for attendance at drills and fire calls. Seconded by Hustrulid <br />drills & fire and carried unanimously. <br />calls when off <br />duty Cartwright moved that we continue the appointment of Earl W.
