<br />REGULAR MEETING, WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 11, 1956
<br />Meeting called to order at 7:110 P.M., all council members being present as
<br />follows: William R. Utecht, Mayor; George J. Shavor, Trustee; David P. Cartwright,
<br />Trustee; Harold C. Nilsen, Trustee; Clyde J. Stewart, Clerk. Also present -
<br />William E. Olsen, Treasurer, and Framk N. Graham, Attorney.
<br />Minutes of Canvassing Board meeting, December 7, 1955, Regular meeting, December
<br />7,.1955 and Regular meeting, December 28, 1955, were heard and approved as read.
<br />Req'n. #71 covering second sheets, paper port folio and similar
<br />Cl erk's supplies for the .Clerk, was ordered approved on motion by
<br />Cart~rright, seconded by Utecht.
<br />Req'n. #72 for 300 ft. 12" fire hose, one 22x1 standard reducer,
<br />Fire. Dept. 6 spanner belts, etc., was approved on motion by Cartwright,

<br />Policing & The Clerk presented a report from Public Safety Supervisor
<br />mileage, 1955 Don Arndt on Village poliding operations for 1955, showing
<br />total cost of $1,100.29 and fines received amounting to
<br />X3,599.00. Total policing mileage was 15,089 miles.
<br />Bingo permit Letter dated January 6, 1956, from Mr. Paul W. Larson
<br /> was read, requesting authority on behalf. of the St Paul
<br /> Campus Union Board of Gove rnors to conduct a bingo game
<br /> in the Student Union Social Center on the St Paul Campus
<br /> of the University of Minnesota. In accord with our attorney's
<br /> advice (see page 516) regarding state statutes permitting certain.
<br /> groups not organized for pecuniary profit to operate the
<br /> game of bingo, Cartwright moved, seconded by Stewart, that
<br /> the Clerk write to Mr. Larson that the Council ~a no ob3ection
<br /> to the St Paul Campus Union Board of Governor°s~ suc$"~ game
<br /> as stated in Mr. Carson's letter. Motion carried unanimously.
<br />Constable Bond. in the amount of $500.00 of The Fidelity and Casualty
<br />Dachtera's Company, for Constable. Henry J. Dachtera, for the period
<br />bond January 3, 1956 thru December 31, 1957, was considered.
<br /> Stewart moved approval of said bond, seconded by Nilsen
<br /> and motion carried unanimously.
<br />Election Letter of December 12, 1955 from the County Auditor was
<br />districts read, relative to dividing election districts within the
<br /> Village so that the number of voters in each shall be
<br /> substantially equal. After discussion, it was agreed
<br /> that no change would be made with respect to election
<br /> districts or voting place before the. Presidential Primary
<br /> Election on March 20 this year. In the event that it is
<br /> decided to increase the number of election districts later
<br /> on this year, the Clerk was asked to write the Superintendent
<br /> of Schools for permission to use the Fa~.con Heights grade
<br /> school as one of the voting places. Shavor will check
<br /> Election district No. 2 with respect to dividing it .
<br /> so as to equalize the number of voters in each division.
<br />Fireman Letter of December 22, 1955 relating to an incident during
<br />Raymond the probation period of Fireman Raymond Merkel was discussed
