Agenda Number: <br />CITY OF HUGO <br />PARKS COMMISSION REPORT <br />TO: Bryan Bear, City Administrator <br />FROM: Shayla Syverson, Parks Planner <br />SUBJECT: Fable Hill Park <br />DATE: March 3, 2016 for the City Council meeting of March 7, 2016 <br />1. INTRODUCTION: <br />The Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Commission made a recommendation to approve <br />construction of a playground at a new park in Fable Hill at their February 10, 2016 <br />meeting. Their recommendation included accepting a $20,000 donation from the Fable <br />Hill Homeowners Association with a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and <br />contributing an additional $50,000 from the Parks Special Fund. <br />The Parks Commission discussed holding a neighborhood meeting to review playground <br />equipment proposals from multiple vendors and select a name for the new park. <br />The City of Hugo has received multiple requests for a playground from residents of the <br />Fable Hill neighborhood. Through park dedication, the City received the park property <br />and it was improved to include evergreen and shade trees along the perimeter, a park <br />shelter, and an irrigated open space. <br />2. BACKGROUND: <br />The future park has been discussed by the Fable Hill neighborhood, Len Pratt, and the <br />Parks Commission over the last several years. <br />Land Acquisition & Grading <br />At the meeting of March 9, 2011, the Parks Commission reviewed a park dedication <br />proposal for Fable Hill Third Addition. With the 5 new lots, park dedication was <br />received in the amount of $12,000. Following up on the previous additions in Fable Hill, <br />Outlot A was required to be dedicated to the City and improved at the time of grading on <br />the new lots. The future park property was graded and seeded with prairie grasses in the <br />summer of 2013. <br />-1- <br />Fable Hill Park <br />March 7, 2016 <br />
