Hugo City Council Meeting Minutes for May 5, 2014 <br />Page 2 of 8 <br />proclaiming May 1 st as Joe Bergeron Day in the City of Hugo. The Mayor asked Sheriff Bill <br />Hutton to lead the group in a moment of silence to remember Sergeant Joe Bergeron. <br />Washington County Sheriffs Office Annual Report — Sheriff Bill Hutton <br />Commander Cheri Dexter and Sergeant Wayne Johnson attended this meeting with Sheriff <br />Hutton who presented the 2013 Washington County Sheriff's Department Annual Report. Hutton <br />talked about the 244 full time employees and volunteers in the department. The Sherriff s office <br />consists of seven divisions that provide services to Hugo residents in addition to the seven <br />deputies who patrol Hugo. Hutton provided statistics on crime, gun permits issued, ICR (Initial <br />Complaint Reports), citations issued, foreclosure sales, and motor vehicle accidents. Sheriff <br />Hutton invited everyone to "like" them on FaceBook, where the Department puts information on <br />financial scams and computer/technology crimes. <br />The Sheriff and Council discussed the increase in gun permits and crimes involving narcotics, <br />specifically heroin, which is on the rise. Also discussed was the Yellow Ribbon Network <br />training of Department members to assist veterans who are experiencing difficulties. Commander <br />Dexter explained a training program the department employees participate in to help them assist <br />returning vets. <br />Also discuss was the drug drop-off program, mail theft, and Project Safety, which helps locate <br />the young, elderly, and special needs individuals who lope or experience memory loss. <br />Sheriff Hutton present the Mayor with a Certificate of Completion of the Citizens Academy, <br />which they are continuing to offer. <br />Good Neighbor Days on June 5-8, 2014 - Hugo Lions Club <br />The Hugo Lions Club will hold their annual Good Neighbor Days Festival on June 5-8, 2014 in <br />Lions Park. In the past, the City has co-sponsored the event by waiving the $75 Special Event <br />Permit fee and providing the Washington County Sheriffs Deputies for the event. Lions <br />Members Rusty Pastorius and Paul Neutkens invited everyone to attend the Festival. Paul stated <br />there have been no issues the last few years, and they were not making any changes to the event. <br />The Lions requested the City co-sponsor the event again this year. <br />Haas made motion, Klein seconded, to co-sponsor the event and provide police coverage for the <br />Hugo Good Neighbor Days on June 5-8, 2014. <br />All Ayes.
