Hugo City Council Meeting Minutes for November 19, 2012 <br />Page 6 of 7 <br />Petryk made motion, Weidt seconded, to approve the agreement with MnDOT and MN <br />Commercial for installation of the crossing equipment at 130th Street/TH61. <br />All Ayes. Motion carried. <br />Presentation of Findings on Water Conservation Efforts -Chuck Prokop <br />This was added to the agenda at the request of Becky Petryk and resident Chuck Prokop. Chuck <br />Prokop, 5216 141St Street North, has been keeping the Council apprised of efforts to conserve <br />water at the Fenway Place Townhomes. Mr. Prokop explained to the Council the Fenway Place <br />Homeowners Association installed a Rain Bird device to the irrigation system to check the <br />humidity in the air and moisture in the ground to determine when the sprinklers should turn on. <br />Chuck Prokop said that over the past two years they saw a 41 % reduction in water consumption <br />and 39% reduction in cost. It was noted there are other devices on the market that monitor <br />irrigation systems. Council discussed analyzing the information and disseminating the <br />information to the public. Also discussed was providing incentives to conserve water using the <br />water rate structure for billing. <br />Miron made motion, Haas seconded, to direct staff to review this information and include it for <br />discussion at the Council's Goal Setting Session in January. <br />All Ayes. Motion carried. <br />Update on Yellow Ribbon Network <br />Council Member Chuck Haas and Council Member Phil Klein reported to Council on the Yellow <br />Ribbon Network activities held recently. A successful packaging event was held on Saturday, <br />November 10th. Hamburger Night on November 28th will be sponsored by the Hugo Business <br />Association. Thanksgiving Baskets were delivered to military families. There will be another <br />pheasant hunt for 50-60 soldiers on December 15th <br />Hugo Business Association Small Business Saturday, November 24, 2012 <br />City Administrator Bryan Bear announced that the Hugo Business Association is encouraging local <br />business to participate in Small Business Saturday by providing special offers to shoppers on that <br />day. The HBA will promote Small Business Saturday on their web site, FaceBook, and email blasts <br />as well as The Citizen newspaper events section. Small Business Saturday is the day between Black <br />Friday and Cyber Monday that is dedicated to supporting small businesses nationwide. <br />Annual Holiday Party Thursday, December 6, 2012 <br />City Administrator Bryan Bear reminded Council of the 2012 Annual Holiday party to be held <br />on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at the Hugo American Legion beginning with Social Hour at <br />5:30 p.m. and dinner at 6:30 p.m. This party is held for Hugo's Commissions and Boards in <br />appreciation for the volunteer work. <br />
