Hugo City Council Meeting Minutes for June 20, 2011
Page 7 of 7
Update on Yellow Ribbon Network Activities
Council Member Chuck Haas and Council Member Phil Klein reported to Council on the activities
of the Yellow Ribbon Network (YRN). The next Burgers for the Troops night is Wednesday, June
22 from 5-8 p.m. at the Hugo American Legion. In July, the YRN will be hosting a camping trip at
Big Marine Vets Campground for families of an Air National Guard Unit. There is a request for
two care packages for deployed Hugo Soldiers. Two thousand three hundred member of the MN
National Guard at Fort McCoy will be deployed to Kuwait and the YRN will be serving steak
dinners to the soldiers and their families. The YRN is also raising funds to provide bus
transportation for families to Fort McCoy. The YRN is providing meals for two Hugo families. If
anyone wants to volunteer to provide a meal, there is a link on the City's website. There are two
families looking for help to mow their yards, and Council Member Haas said he spoke to Public
Works Director Scott Anderson who offered his department to mow these lawns with Council
approval.
Miron made motion, Haas seconded, to table the request for lawn mowing to allow the City
attorney to research the legal issues related to it.
All Ayes. Motion carried.
Discussion on the Trees Along CSAH 8
Council Member Haas added this item to the agenda. Haas expressed his dissatisfaction of the
product planted on CSAH 8 and the attempts of the contractors to get it right. He stated there was
still a retainer and bond, and the City should use the money to buy good trees. Miron noted the
contractor would be meeting with Public Works Director Scott Anderson the following day, and he
felt the Council should wait to make a decision. Haas said he would attend this meeting with Scott
Anderson and the Contractor, and he will discuss the City's options with the City Attorney.
Business Networking Breakfast Meeting on June 28, 2011
City Administrator Mike Ericson provided a friendly reminder to Council of the Business
Networking Breakfast Meeting sponsored by the Hugo Business Association along with the Hugo
Economic Development Authority to be held at Hugo City Hall on June 28, 2011 at 7:30 a.m.,
where County Attorney Pete Orput will be speaking. Mayor Miron and Council Members Haas,
Klein, and Weidt indicated they would be attending this event.
Adiournment
Petryk made motion Weidt seconded, to adjourn at 9:18 p.m.
All Ayes. Motion carried.
Respectfully Submitted,
Michel Lindau, City Clerk
